The sight of an open airy space,well lit ,wide tables and neatly attired staff…already the dining experience had begun on a pleasurable note ! My introduction to the food from Hotel Sri Surya ,was late one evening ,at the home of my sibling ! Though I had heard lavish praises heaped on the quality of food here,I was still very impressed when I tasted their bun parotas ! The fact that they were amazingly soft and light, long after they were brought home,was quite a revelation ! Parotas as far as I knew had to be eaten hot otherwise they turned rubbery…well,I can’t say the same about the bun parota now !!!! I’m glad they opened in my city..Coimbatore !
They are situated at the Ramanathapuram junction,on Trichy road. Working hours are between 11.30 a.m. and 4.00p.m. and 6.30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m.
Soon after I had dined on these delights,I kept hearing more and more rave reviews from many other members of my family ! Of course,I had to go and see for myself ! Anything for you,my lovely foodie readers !!! The ambience did indeed catch me by surprise ! One is used to the small spaces that traditional eateries usually portray ,but here the owners had paid a lot of attention to the little details and that was very evident !
The food arrived just as we were getting comfortable in our seats. Eyes wide with wonder,I gapped at their staff and wondered suspiciously,if they employed genies in their kitchen !!! Never have I had food served this quick at a restaurant ! Despite that,the staff wait by patiently without intruding on your meal,to ask a thousand questions and I was very thankful for that ! The paneer just melts in the mouth ,as does the brain fry ! The kothu parotas are delicious and the kalakki is far too yummy and by itself,is enough to have you going back for more !
The take out counter is also a busy corner and you cannot help but notice their signs on the wall for ‘ice beeda’. The name does arouse your curiosity,to place an order. It arrives ‘as cold as ice’ ,hard to the touch and is syrupy sweet…the technique is to freeze it and serve directly from the freezer…interesting and worth trying out for a party at home !!! One bite is the perfect end to a spicy meal.
The owner Mr. Thirunavukarasu oversees the operations everyday and you can find him busily checking on his customers at the restaurant. When I complimented him on the delicious fare,he laughingly said that we had not tasted even 10% of the food on his menu ! All the more reason,to go back !!!!

After a successful stint of 27 years in Tirupur, I’m sure they will soon enjoy the patronage of all the foodies in our city and will be as popular as they are in their home town !
