Water Science Shower with filter

Water Science Shower with filter

The coincidences which life throws your way are at times so difficult to fathom but it is acknowledged with immense gratitude. Let me tell you what I mean ! All my life the women in my family , mother, aunts, grandmother and her sisters (you get what I mean…the large Indian family network) have never stopped telling me how blessed I am to have thick black hair. I remember it being a tussle to get my hair braided for school because one pair of hands were never enough. My mother’s slim wrist would hurt and she would have to take a break before continuing the braiding.

Naturally it was sacrilegious to even ‘think’ of cutting it . Needless to say that was all I could think of when teenage hit me full on. I mean there was so much else I would rather have been doing than have to care for hair that was so long ( it grew below waist level).

Today I long for that very thickness. The black is still there, thank heavens but in the past few years the thinning has been evident, not just at the crown but more in the strands which I see ,in woe, floating towards the drain after every hair wash. I am one of those who have listened to people talk about hair fall ,onion juice applications and hibiscus and curry leaf oil infusions and tried my best to be supportive of their distress. This was hard considering I had not, then ,experienced dramatic hair loss.

Recently however the hair fall did not seem to be showing any signs of receding (pun intended !) .So ,we went the whole hog, 6-8 soaked almonds every morning, multi vitamins in natural form , goat milk shampoo , natural conditioner…you name it. Nothing seemed to work.

Imagine my surprise when a friend called asking if I was interested in reviewing a shower head and writing about it…He went on to say that it had made a huge difference to the hair fall issues his partner was facing. That was all I needed to hear to get on board.

Soon after ,I got talking with Ishani from Water Science (the brand behind this invention). She briefed me about the technology behind this shower head and why they were keen to spread the word. So the usp about this showerhead is the 4 layer filtration system encased inside . I know what you’re thinking…how can a shower attachment make a difference to rectifying hair fall ?!

It’s not just some marketing gimmick. A lot of thought and research has gone into this innovation.  There is a micro sieve layer, a hardness conditioning layer, a chlorine removal layer and a nano silver carbon layer. Each layer serves a specific purpose. Stay with me ,it gets more interesting!

As the water from the pipes flows through this filter, the first layer filters suspended and dissolved micro particles and impurities present in the hard water. The second layer reduces even further the natural oil depleting effects that hard water salts and lime scale deposits can cause. The third layer is extremely effective in reducing up to 90% of chlorine and heavy metals which are present, like mercury and lead. The final layer inhibits the bacteria responsible for foul odour and prevents any kind of bacterial growth.

The water which is sent out after this very intricate system of filtration is softer on the skin and hair. The brochure and website suggest that a few weeks of use will show a change in hair loss. Will you believe it if I told you that it was noticeable after the first wash?

What can I say…there was definitely a reduction in the strands of hair which curled over the drain. It was apparent almost right away but we humans tend to be slightly suspicious when something works…so we make sure that our mind is not playing tricks on us. So with every hair wash , the scrutiny would be intense. After 5 weeks of this, I am happy to state that with the same oils, conditioner and shampoo, the hair feels a lot softer and hair fall is minimal.

There’s another thing which is not just more important but truly the need of the hour and that is water conservation. When I was first told about the shower head one of the things that we spoke about was an eco-mode. At home, we are very careful with the amount of water we use. Recycling water, rainwater harvesting and using tap water frugally is a part of our day to day thought process. So when this showerhead came with a water saving option , we were relieved. Showers are usually indulged in for the bare minimum, only on the days when we need a hair wash .So this was perfect. On other days it’s the Indian bucket bath.

The water saving mode on the shower head is so easy to switch to. In fact everything from installation to use is extremely simplified in the CLEO SFM-419 MULTI-FLOW shower filter. A slight turn in the centre is all that is needed to get a misty spray of water which is forceful enough to have the skin and scalp feel rejuvenated.

Let’s face it, no one wants a feeble jet of water. It negates the whole purpose of a shower. Rather than trying to get people to stop taking showers, options like these are a better bet in saving our scarce natural resource.

In addition to this highly effective filtration system, the folks at Water science have also added an option which feels like an in-house self-pampering treatment. The timing couldn’t have been better too. With spas and hair treatments not being an option this year, to have an aromatherapy infused shower at home seemed like a wonderful advantage.

The aroma pads come in small sachets. They are infused with natural oils like citrus, eucalyptus, juniper berry etc. The citrus seemed the most familiar of scents to start with. During the shower one does not get a hit of the fragrance. It’s a faint scent almost hard to pick up. Considering the strong fragrance emanating from the aroma pad, this did surprise me.

The actual benefits happen after. The refreshing citrus notes lingers on the skin in a gentle almost comforting manner and infuses the senses about 10 minutes after the shower. There is a feeling of calm and restfulness which is felt afterwards. It is almost like having a warm soothing beverage before bedtime. I think it’s best to add the aroma pad for an evening bath. It does enhance the quality of sleep ,in my opinion.

The white aromatic disc is easy to pop in. The centre inner portion of the shower head can be unscrewed quite easily to place the aroma pad inside the cavity.

I can’t tell you how great it is to try out a product which uses the right technology to help deal with the skin and hair issues we face because of hard water.
